Abraar School Students Council consists of an elected president and a vice-president as well as two class representatives (one boy and one girl) from each class, from Grade four through grade eight. All students, from grade four and up, participate in the elections of the president and the vice-president.
The council gets elected at the beginning of each school year for a term of one year. Its mandate is to help supervising during recess, lunch, and prayer times as well as planning for and running extra-curricular activities. It also conveys to the school principal the suggestions and the concerns of the student’s body. The council runs its meetings under the supervision of a teacher from the junior/intermediate divisions. All its plans need the approval of the principal before being put into practice.
On October 27 th, Abraar School has elected its third annual Students Council. The runners for the elections were three pairs, president and vice president, of eighth graders who had posted posters and given speeches to the voters. On parallel to this, students from grades four, five, six, seven, and eight have chosen their representatives in the council (one boy and one girl from each class). The elected president has promised activities such as fieldtrips, clubs, and competitions for both, students and teachers. The council has held its first official meeting with the school principal.
