Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Abraar School website.

For those of you who have not had the opportunity of visiting our school, we are located in the west end of Ottawa. We are by no means an ordinary school. Not only do we follow the Ontario Curriculum, but we also offer a regular English program, a Core French program, an Arabic program, a Qur’an and Islamic studies program to our J.K. through Grade 8 students.

This past school year, we have had the pleasure of celebrating our 10th anniversary.

Our student population for the 2010-2011 academic year is approximately 275. Abraar school has been and is blessed with staff members and volunteers who are committed to working closely with parents and the community to make the school a place where children like and want to be.  Our dedicated staff members work tirelessly in making the school’s Islamic environment a caring, challenging and healthy one. They also offer a variety of extra-curricular activities that include academics, the sciences, the arts and sports.  Last but certainly not least, our school would not be complete without our Parents Support Team. This dynamic team supports student learning and school activities by assisting in classrooms, by supervising on field trips and by fundraising for different school activities.

The “School’s Improvement Plan” is updated annually. This year, we will be focusing our attention on literacy skills across the curriculum, mathematics, incorporating technology in the classrooms and character education initiatives.

According to the Fraser Institute Schools Ranking (based on the school’s performance in the EQAO provincial tests), Abraar School ranked 4th out of 170 schools in the city of Ottawa. Also, it ranked 98th out of 2742 schools in the province.

We would like to take this opportunity to give a heartfelt thank you to all the students, staff members and parents for their commitment and on-going support.

I wish all of you a terrific and productive school year!

Nouha Jamali, Acting Principal
